Free shield kits are available now. Find out how you can help get healthcare workers needed face shields.
The initial results are good. We ran several shields through the normal, heated dry cycle of our home dishwasher. We placed half on the top rack and half on the bottom rack. We also tied the headbands to ensure that they would not become entangled in any moving parts nor fall down directly on the heating element.
The results were very encouraging. The shields on both top and bottom survived without melting or becoming unusable. The folds relaxed a bit but could quickly and easily be restored by pinching them tighter. Shields that were able to slump between the racks had more, but still recoverable, distortions. The headbands were more crinkled but they and the cinch were still perfectly usable. Our dishwasher left water spots. This may have been because we didn't have a rinse agent. We will be doing more tests and adding updates here.
